The Utah Indigent Defense Commission (IDC) assists the state in meeting its obligations to ensure indigent defense services are consistent with the United States Constitution, the Utah Constitution, and the Utah Code.
Traditionally, Utah's local governments have solely funded indigent defense at the county and municipal level. The IDC receives state appropriations to supplement this spending.
Utah's local governments may apply for IDC reimbursement for supplemental expenditures over current spending, when it is intended to meet the IDC's Core Principles.
